Delhi Budget 2025: Key Highlights and Announcements
On March 25, 2025, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the historic ₹1 lakh crore budget in the Delhi Assembly. This budget focuses on development, welfare, and addressing key issues in the city, such as health, water, sanitation, and women’s empowerment.
Key Announcements:
- Health Services: ₹1,000 crore has been allocated to enhance healthcare, with ₹320 crore for the Aarogya Scheme. Additionally, ₹500 crore will be spent on water treatment plants to ensure clean water, and ₹500 crore will be dedicated to cleaning the Yamuna River.
- Women Empowerment: ₹5,100 crore has been allocated to the Women Empowerment Scheme, and women will receive ₹2,500 monthly support. A new health insurance scheme will provide ₹5 lakh additional coverage.
- Cleanliness and Water: ₹9,000 crore has been earmarked for clean water projects, and ₹500 crore for sewage management. The government has also promised to eliminate the “garbage mountains” from the city.
- Infrastructure: ₹28,000 crore is proposed for capital expenditure, and 100 Atal Canteens will be set up to provide affordable meals.
- Other Developments: ₹696 crore will be allocated to improve slum areas, and ₹20 crore for the PM Awas Yojana. Additionally, a Trade Welfare Board will be established to support local businesses.
CM Rekha Gupta criticized the previous government for its lack of progress and promised that this budget would focus on development, job creation, and the welfare of all residents.
